Here is how it works:

  • The meetings work best if you have, speakers (or headphones), a webcam and microphone (webcams and mics are built into most laptops). However, you can participate with just speakers or headphones.
  • When you register for a Virtual Meeting, you are sent a login code. We’ll also send you a reminder shortly before the meeting. At the time of the meeting, you just click on the link to enter. There is no software to load. The link takes you straight to the meeting website.
  • The meeting moderator will walk you through how to use the online system to talk, chat, start a private conversation with another participant, mute your mic, turn your camera off etc. It’s very simple and only takes minutes to understand.
  • Everyone then takes turns introducing themselves. You tell the rest of the participants what you do, and then ask for whatever (or whoever) you need next. For example:

“My name is Vinny Ribas and I am the CEO of Indie Connect. We help singers, songwriters and musicians discover new and effective ways to increase their incomes using their musical talents. We also help them get connected with the music industry pros and service providers who can help them. What I need next is introductions to individuals who might be interested in establishing a local chapter in their local community.”

  • What you’ll find is artists looking for producers or booking agents, and producers or booking agents looking for artists. You might hear a songwriter looking for a cowriter or a publisher, or a singer looking for advice on moving to LA. You ask for whatever you need next to move your career forward.
  • Once a person makes a request, the rest of the group tries to help him find what he asked for. The connection might be in the same meeting, or it could come from a referral. The system allows you to click on another person’s name and send them a private message with your referral!

Depending on the nature of the meeting, a guest speaker may do his or her presentation after everyone has introduced themselves.

It’s that simple!
